A native of Colorado, Albert S. Giesecke began his art training in the late 1920s with lessons from Robert A. Graham, famed painter of Colorado landscapes. Al received his B.A. from Colorado College in art, followed by four years at the Art Center School in Los Angeles (now the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena).
Moving to San Francisco in the mid 1930s, Al worked as an art director at the San Francisco Examiner and later as art director for two prominent advertising agencies — Lord & Thomas (now Foote, Cone & Belding) and N.W. Ayer & Son. He won many graphics awards including the Gold Medal Award from the New York Art Directors Club. Later he established Western Graphics, a firm serving the advertising business with graphic design and production.
In the 1980s, Al returned to the fine arts field specializing in portraiture. He studied under the distinguished California painter George Sheppard and later under Olga Miniclier, leading Denver pastelist.
Al was a member of the San Francisco Art Directors Club, Denver Artists Guild, Colorado Artists Association and the Colorado Springs Art Guild.
Al's portraits reflect the many years of academic training in studied attention to drawing, values and color, and are in many private collections across the country.
Al passed away in January of 1998.
